Ed Becker, M.D., was a pioneer in the introduction of laser hair removal in Northern California, and we continue our leadership in this field, with state-of-the-art technology that can significantly reduce the need for shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair.

We offer an advanced hair removal system -- the EpiLight -- using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL light sources, like lasers, gently remove unwanted hair based on the principle of selective photothermolyisis -- whereby light energy is used to incapacitate the hair follicles.

Unlike lasers, IPL sources deliver a broad spectrum of light at high levels in millisecond bursts. The light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed in the target pigment (melanin) found in the hair shaft. This energy absorbed in the shaft causes the temperature to reach a sufficiently high level in the hair follicle so that the targeted hair structures are destroyed down to the bulb, preventing regrowth.

Treatment is fast and gentle. A recent joint study at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Duke University Medical Center found that the EpiLight system achieves a unique degree of genuine and selective cell destruction to hair follicles.

Hair can be removed from the face, bikini line, or underarms, and can be used for a wide range of skin tones.
